Creative ads of the week: Coca-Cola, Galaxy S23 FE and more

Every week, I attempt to share a compilation of creative ads which get noticed and convey a relevant message in an interesting fashion. Here are some ads which caught my eye this past week or so.

Wildbean Cafe: drives you cravey

The insight of ‘in-between meal hunger makes us irritable and act out of character’ served Snickers very well. A similar idea of ‘hunger pangs make us crave for food’is brought alive for BP’s Wildbean Cafe in New Zeland. Loved how everyday things such as cement mixers and spare tyres are made to resemble food. Great use of the visual medium.

Coca-Cola: Santa Stories

A great example of popular culture influencing sentiments and the power of marketing can be seen in the context of the ‘Christmas movie’ and the ‘Christmas ad’ from brands. A common theme across movies & ads is that of ‘believing in the magic’ (of Santa, of the season) and a message to ‘do good or make others feel good’. In India, there is ample opportunity to do such with Diwali. While most brands keep the messaging positive there are some who tend to get preachy.

Anyway, just when you thought this year’s feel-good ads are over, comes a couple of – not ads, but short films from Coca-Cola. I guess only big brands, with big budgets can afford to do such, getting the best of talent from the film industry. These films were released on Prime apparently. I liked how the brand plays a role in the films through the iconic bottle which is visually highlighted in the key moments of both the films. I particularly liked the writing in ‘The Note’.

Queensland Health: sunshine

I guess developed countries can invest behind campaigns which urge people to take precautions from exposure to sunshine during summer. Nevertheless, a fun way to urge people to wear sun screen lotion or a hat as protection from the sun.

Agency: CHEP Network

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: greatest hits

The features of a smart phone are highlighted without the boring tech specifications in this ad for Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. The key features are brought alive in the form of greatest hits by their brand ambassadors: broadcaster, author and founder of Happy Place, Fearne Cotton and professional Premier League footballer Raheem Sterling.

Agency: Mother

SAP Business AI: office cat

A majority of those who’ve tried an AI tool are likely to have used it with a routine, ‘non-serious’ prompt. A new spot from SAP Business AI recognises that and says its service can be used for decisions impacting the bottom line rather than as frivolous manner such as recreating a pet cat. ”How about AI that does something useful? asks this ad and goes on to provide the answer too.

Agency: BBDO

Netflix: Lupin Season 3

Released in Oct 23, this campaign won big at the 2023 Epica Awards – in print craft. Loved how the ad mimics the popular imagery of luxury brand advertising and weaves in the plot line of the web series.
