Amazon has opened a dedicated store for COVID-19-related supplies, but it’s limiting sales to hospitals and government organizations.  

The retailer posted on the store’s homepage that inventory is currently very limited and it’s urgently working to procure critical supplies.

Products being made available to front-line healthcare workers include face shields, thermometers, protective gloves, face masks, surgical gowns and sanitizers.

State governments, federal agencies and U.S.-accredited hospitals can fill out a form to make a purchase request, and the retailer said it’s currently onboarding thousands of them.

 “All supplies available on COVID-19 Supplies will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis. Inventory of these critical supplies are currently very limited and will have quantity limits,” it notes.

Amazon said it’s not making a profit on these sales, having designated them as a service to its communities. It’s also providing its teams with N-95 masks.

“We are investing in significant supplier recruitment and logistics to locate and expedite the delivery of this critical inventory across the globe,” it adds. “We will also waive all standard referral fees for third-party sellers who supply products for this effort.”

Amazon is also restricting the public sales to COVID-19 diagnostic kits, a company spokesperson told CNBC, in order to prioritize them to hospitals and government agencies.
