Walmart Scoops Up Target Exec as New CMO

William White has departed Target to join Walmart as its new U.S. chief marketing officer.

Walmart chief customer officer Janey Whiteside wrote in a memo to employees that White was “a customer-centric, innovative marketer” who “loves to build and nurture teams,” according to AdAge, and said he executed “plans that worked to drive sales, build brand equity and create a loyal customer following.”

White was most recently senior vice president of marketing at Target, which he joined in 2013. Prior to Target, he spent eight years at The Coca-Cola Company, holding such roles as group brand director of Diet Coke and Coke Zero, Coca-Cola North America, and global brand director of Diet Coke and Coke Light, among others.

The chief marketing officer role was previously held by Barbara Messing and has been vacant since she departed in August 2019.
