Browns has pledged to honour all the orders placed with the designer labels it sells as the Covid-19 outbreak forces many retailers to cancel their orders.

“Our business is nurtured by our staff and our values,” Browns chief executive Holli Rogers said to FashionNetwork.com.

She said that Browns is extremely mindful of the economic pressures weighing on younger labels and in order to help them minimise Covid-19’s impact it won’t cancel any orders.

The Browns director of men’s and womenswear buying Ida Petersson spoke to FashionNetwork.com and said it won’t be cancelling any orders placed for Autumn/Winter 2020-21 unless asked by the labels themselves.

She said the retailer usually pays emerging designers before they begin production and that its accounting department is adhering to the policy in order to give priority to the payments that are most needed.

“My team and I are making sure we are constantly in touch with our designers, so that we are aware of what we can do to help them.” Petersson said.

Petersson said she has already seen changes in consumer behaviour as consumers become more interested in lifestyle and interior design items.

Browns which was bought by Farfetch in 2015, is renowned for the range of emerging brands it commercialises and earlier this month it launched its Family Affair initiative in support of young designers.

It will give direct support to young creatives as each week, the retailer is asking designers from the world of fashion and other fields to curate and produce content for its website and social media accounts.

“The project’s goal is to support young creatives in these lockdown times by giving them a platform to express themselves, at the same time generating inspirational content for Browns’s clientèle,” said Browns in a press release.
