US mall operator opening as COVID-19 shutdowns end

Simon Property Group, the biggest U.S. mall operator, has re-opened 77 properties as of the start of this week and implemented a slew of sanitizing, health and social distancing guidelines in place.

The group owns more than 200 malls and properties, according to a New York Post report.

“We are, of course, working in conjunction with state and local governments and our reopening plans,” Simon said during a conference call earlier this week, according to the report. “Shopper response to our reopenings has been positive, and sales as many tenants have been better than their initial expectations.”

Simon’s reported a first quarter income dip of 20.2%.
