The continuing coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted supply chains around the world, is prompting Amazon to temporarily suspend shipping of non-Amazon packages.
The retailer’s Amazon Shipping service, which has been running in test mode, will stop in June as Amazon focuses on fulfilling its own orders, according to a New York Post report, which cited a Wall Street Journal article.
“We regularly look at a variety of factors across Amazon to make sure we’re set up in the right way to best serve our customers,” Amazon said in a statement regarding the decision.
Amazon Shipping is operating in a few U.S. cities, and posed big competition for both UPS and FedEx. Amazon said in March it would hire 100,000 warehouse and delivery workers to deal with a surge in online orders due to COVID-19 stay-at-home mandates.
