Texas consumers have filed 756 complaints of price gouging related to the coronavirus pandemic, according to an NBC 5 report. The state’s consumer protection division confirmed Thursday it is investigating the complaints.
Most complaints were from Dallas and Houston and concerned bottled water, hand sanitizer and toilet paper.
A spokesperson told NBC 5 offenders may have to reimburse consumers and could face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation with an additional penalty of up to $250,000 in cases affecting elderly consumers.
