Michigan motorists and watercraft owners are now able to renew license plates at 28 self-service kiosks at Meijer stores, thanks to a partnership between the state and Meijer, according to a press release.

Vehicle owners only need to provide their license plate number and the last four digits of their VIN number.

The state has contracted with Intellectual Technology Inc. on the new kiosks, which are being provided at no cost to the state. Customers pay a technology service fee of $3.95 for every vehicle renewed at a kiosk. Transactions normally take less than two minutes.

The kiosks accept cash in addition to credit cards, an option not available at older kiosks.
